As union leaders, maintaining our own mental health and wellness has become vital in the work we do. With so many of our members facing mental health crises, we need to be aware of strategies to take care of ourselves and to provide support for friends, family and colleagues who are experiencing challenging times. This session of the Mental Health Break will be led by licensed therapist Chris Williams, from Orange County, California, along with Ben Cort and Chris Carlough from the SMART MAP team, who will lead the discussion as a processing group as well as offer timely suggestions and guidance to improve our mental health. We encourage participants to attend ready to talk openly and honestly about mental health and the difficulties we are all facing.
“Mental health problems don’t define who you are. They are something you experience. You walk in the rain, and you feel the rain, but most importantly, you are not the rain.” — Matt Haig
